On the strength of the Good Beer guide, I visited this week and was disappointed to find this is a "gastro pub" with minimum lunch price of 16 for two courses. I did not enquire the range of cask ales. As the place was completely empty (but I was told there were some customers in the garden) it was simply not my kind of pub. In fact I don't think it is a pub at all - more of a rather expensive, upmarket restaurant.

Excellent food, though portions too small; a touch too arty farty, though as we were being treated I mustn't complain. The beer-Caledonian Six Nations was surprisingly good.

i found myself here at about 11 o'clock one summer day after a heavy night in the country. There was some true Withnail and I moments in the village but the pub was lovely and the staff very helpful. Lovely good, lovely old decor.

And because it is an absolutely superb pub/restaurant, easily the best for many miles, I sometimes go here just to sit in the garden with a pint of Badger Best, the whole place is sublime and the food is to die for.
