As we were stying in the hotel across the road for Bank Holiday weekend my Fiance and I popped in on a coupleof occasions for a drink. On both occasions it was impossoble to sit outside (even though the weather was warm and fine) due to the large number of smokers) so we sat inside!

Lots of TV's for the sports fans. Saturday afternoon was peaceful and we enjoyed a couple of pints. Sunday evening was busy and a quiz night. Staff mainly attentive and polite, except they appeared to have no concept of who they needed to serve next!

All in all an ok pub. Depends on what your needs are; and seemed popular too.

Got fed up with the food when staying at the hotel opposite so ventured to the Grosvenor. Very busy at teatime, with lots of passers by stopping for a drink. Good atmosphere.
Great bar staff, helpful and friendly.
Good range of beers.
Plenty of tvs to watch sport, etc.
Good selection of food, not the best quality (as mentioned in other reviews) but adequate and served quickly.
Went back two nights later and pub was quieter, but still great atmosphere.

Can't see why this place has such a low rating. Went there on Saturday lunchtime and again late evening. Friendly service and decent range of beers: Landlord, Bombardier, Pride and one other I can't recall. Lots of screens if you want to watch the football but plenty of seating if you want to get away from it. Had lunch there which was also decent. Not at all busy so it seems I am in the minority.

A definition of the word " average" ! Could be so much better with just a little bit more effort ?

A positive is the amount of women who frequent the place ......

As a regular drinker in the Grosvenor for many years, i've seen a number of changes. The grosvenor used to be a fantastic pub.
I was surprised, but not remotely disappointed to see a 4.8 rating. I think the people who are rating this place have it spot on. Perhaps they are slightly generous though.
This pub has seen it's best days, whilst recently refurbished, and with generally very pleasant and helpful bar staff - the current management team seem happy to run it into the ground.
Stock control seems to be a major problem for the person in charge - being unable to keep a steady supply of the pub's most popular lagers. Upon being challenged as to why it's not possible simply order more of the popular lines - a simple shrug of the shoulders speaks volumes about the landlords attitude. Doesn't give a toss!
Comments about this place being a 'drinking' pub, rather than an 'eating' one, are also spot on - prepare yourself for premium prices and mediocre generic microwave food in return.
If you attend this pub for a few beers prior to going out for a stag do (based at the hotel over the road) - you'll be surprised by the lively atmosphere and general buzz..
If you're a regular, like me - you'll be starting to look further afield for a local and hope for a sign saying 'under new management' outside the grosvenor very soon.
I did overhear a conversation between the current landlord and a customer regarding how he is being 'headhunted' (?)to run a pub in Sheffield - the Oxley, just up the hill from the train station.
This again speaks volumes about how much the landlord knows - it's called The Howard, has been for decades. And apparently, it's a popular bar with the gay community...
