| Saw this advertised in the paper so decided to try it out. Wish I hadnt. Staff were not organised and 1 was particularly miserable and unwelcoming. Food was very poor and 2 of us couldn't finish our courses because we felt they were so bad. Not surprised hen we were not asked if we enjoyed out meal! I wont be bothering to go back to find out if it was an off day. HungryMe - 4 Jul 2011 14:09 |
| I've heard good things about this pub, so I popped in while on a local stroll; all 3 handpumps are now back in use, with Buntingford and Rebellion alongside Greene King IPA. Had a couple of pints of Buntingford Apollo, in excellent condition. Nice relaxed atmosphere, family and dog-friendly. Will be back for a meal in the not-too-distant future. | We went to The Crown for Sunday lunch today. It was our first visit since it has been under new management and I regret to say it will also be our last. To start with we asked if we could run a tab or did we need to pay for the drinks seperately. We were told a tab would be fine. My husband then went to find a table and I sorted out the drinks. I was then told they would need a card in order to run the tab. Fair enough, I thought, they will take an imprint of the card in case we run off without paying. But no, they actually wanted to keep my card in an unsecured plastic box underneath the optics and just give me a piece of card in exchange. I took my card back and paid cash. As for the food - it was OK but nothing more. My husband had the Carvery and said the meat and vegetables were lukewarm or cold, although the meat was tasty. He also found accessing some of the vegetables difficult as there were some others in the queue who were pushing him out of the way. I had the liver and bacon. I had 3 very small pieces of lambs liver (at a cost of £8.95), one of which was absolutely delicious and the other two slightly overcooked and therefore tough. The girl who brought my vegetables to me from the carvery (cold) had the sleeves/cuffs of her jumper down over her hands, so that part of her cuff was resting on top of my vegetables - most unsavory, not to say unhygenic. The mash was tasty and the onion rings were delicious but if there was any bacon in the gravy it was imperceptible. At no time while we were eating did anyone come to see if everything was OK so I was unable to mention this at the time. It was a very disappointing meal - especially as we had gone there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. restaureview - 19 Oct 2008 14:17 |
| Definitely going downhill. Used to be my after-golf venue on a Thursday night but the last few times they've only had one of the three handpumps loaded. A philanders - 9 May 2008 11:18 |
| Graet family food destination pub. Always something going on with an enormous beer garden with a play area for the kids. Families are most definitely welcome. Jon - 2 May 2006 20:11 |
