Popped into the George IV while visiting the nearby nature reserve, and I'm glad we did. Beer (Adnams) in good condition, and bar staff very friendly. Very tempting menu indeed, alll three courses, but we were boring and went for the rib of beef (three of us) and a Peterhead cod. The presentation was excellent and the food very nicely prepared, with the beef cooked to our liking. Landlord (I assume) brought the food to the table. He was helpful and pleasant. I'd recommend this place to anyone. birchanger - 30 Aug 2011 14:42
Very disappointed with this pub. I specifically booked the restaurant fand advised them it was for a 60th birthday, so I wanted a nice table. On arrival we were offered only the pub seating and a choice of a table by the door or by the toilets. I cannot comment on the food as we left. spudlie - 13 Mar 2009 11:15

Found this pub quite by accident on a country walk, and so glad we did, and that we chose to eat here. My fishcakes and my friend's ham, egg and chips were exceptional, and very reasonably priced. Lovely location, too, next the church and close to the New River. Could have stayed here all day, and might come back and do that soon! Greshon - 6 Nov 2007 09:50
Went here for Sunday lunch recently as i hadnt visited for years. Now run by a local family who were very friendly and hospitable. They had Greene King IPA & Speckled Hen as well as Adnams bitter. I had the IPA which was fine. Spacious restaurant at the rear but they also serve food in the bar if you prefer. It appeared that the restaurant was only open on a Sunday. Very good food & service but not cheap. Also, 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill which I disliked. tangerineman - 29 Oct 2007 15:50
