Good Pub, not as good as the Crofton but so much better than the Osborne view.

This is a really lovely local pub and I was surprised at the last comment (that said its a very old one) as I've eaten there loads of times and the food and service are great. I'd say they serve the best chips ever. There is always a good selection of real ales, which keeps hubby happy and it has a cosy feel where ever you happen to sit. Wish more pubs were like this one.

I work in the area and had the wife and child down to visit and have a break. After arriving on the Saturday we were hungry and observed the pubs sign, 'Real Chefs, Real Chips, Real Food', so we pulled in. We ordered drinks then food. some 'real chips' a couple of freshly cooked meat filled baguettes and a tuna fish sandwich for the bairn. Oh my god! The tuna was like tiny shreds of dark brown wood and stunk. Even my son shouted out that he wasn't eating it. The chips were out the freezer and dripping oil. The baguettes were uncooked with a cold layer of lard on the bottom, the wife's was sodden with fat and tomato juice. The meat inside them was rank. Needless to say it did not get eaten and the staff did their utmost to avoid the table as they could see we weren't impressed. Looking at the other food coming out the kitchen, it wasn't any better. It was that bad that it drove me to join a site like this to warn other people not to waste their hard earned cash on eating at that pub. Avoid like the plague. Oh we got £4 back for the tuna sandwich after confrontation!!!! I give the pub a 1 rating because my pint of Fosters was OK!

A pub that doesnt seem to have changed since the 1800's!! That includes the barman (sorry mate).

Excellent selection of ales and I'm informed the food is good too.

But really really quiet, which is fine depending on your mood.

A good drinkers pub but the food is pretty basic and the decor could do with a bit of love. Beers well kept but not enough local beers!!!
