| Came here for a Saturday evening drink recently. It was really busy in the back bar, a group of ladies in long gowns, meeting for pre-ball drinks, gave the place a pleasant upmarket atmosphere. Service was friendly, but as usual for pubs in Devizes I cannot recommend the beers that much. the 6X was its usual variable self. I find Wadworth's beers are never truly satisfying. | A very friendly, quite old-fashioned place. Good beer and pretty good food too (large portions). Books line the walls and chess players are intent on their game. No TV, no jukebox, no fruit machine; an old hotel bar, perfect for a mid-day pint and a bit to eat. The prices are quite reasonable too. 8/10 HenPen - 4 Apr 2012 21:55 |

| I see it's nearly 4 years since i last reviewed this place, but everything i said then still holds good, except that the food has improved. I think the atmosphere here is quite unique, and absolutely to my taste; I hope it never changes. earlydrinker - 7 Jan 2010 21:39 |
