It’s not that bad! OK, the landlady(?) can seem a bit offhand but she’s never been rude to us (over 4 visits in last year or so).

We like this pub. It serves nice food at a reasonable price. The chips are especially good, I think they are actually made there rather than bought. Never had a meal we didn’t enjoy. A fairly standard menu, but usually there’s a few specials on to liven the choice a bit.

The beer has always been good. Usually a choice of 2, varying, real ales plus the usual stuff.

Not being walkers, we’ve always been in the ‘best end’ which is comfortable, has plenty of room and an open fire.

I don't recognise the comments of the previous review. The lady behind the bar was friendly and helpful about their guest beer. I thought the pub was OK. It had a separate bar which welcomed walkers. I would go there again.

Very disappointing! Staff rude, no atmosphere in pub and even the outside of it is very scruffy.
This is such a shame considering it's location but we won't be back in a hurry!

Is it any wonder that some rural pubs are failing if this is anything to go by. Extremely unfriendly staff who seem to go out of there way to alienate people. I believe even the locals don't use the pub so they cetainly aren't a community pub. Why is it so much effort for people to be friendly. Ths pub probably blames everybody else and doesn't face up to what they have created - avoid at all costs !!

Great location, good beer and friendly enough staff. Food only served at limited times, and muddy boots (which I've always had when I've been) are only permitted in one rather bare and not very comfortable bar. I suspect the other bar is nicer.
