Good beer but the service was a bit off-hand and the food is a bit over-fancy and over-priced. Good views but I reckon the Black Bull is rather better. Psi - 31 Oct 2011 10:06
Called in September 2011. The beer tried (Taglag) was great but the choice of food at lunchtime was very poor . A shame, but we left to go to the Crown for a good meal fellwalker2010 - 30 Sep 2011 08:57
Without doubt the nicest pub in Coniston. Cracking real ales and good food; perfect for kicking back and relaxing after a hard day on Dow Crag! Lancastrian - 23 Sep 2011 14:27
Having highly lauded the Black Bull down the hill, I would like to say that the Sun too is an excellent Pub. The selection of beer totals eight from various Breweries, such as Copper Dragon, Barngates, Coniston and Hawkshead amongst others. all except the 'Sheep and 'dragon are Cumbrian with the Barngate Tag Lag been the pick of the bunch. I did not try the food but it looked and smelled fine. There is a fine slate floored bar where walkers and there boots are welcome, as well as a large Patio with fine views down the hill into the village. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and like the black Bull there is various Donald Campbell related photos on display; he stayed at both the sun and Black Bull when making his various record attempts on the nearby lake. Highly recommended ahscum - 6 Sep 2011 22:06
