A decent pub with sensible prices - £2.60 for Woodforde Wherry on my visit. A proper local with friendly welcome and good service.

We visited this week after going to the Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. We were impressed with the pub which was clean and tidy and rather spacious.

Only two hand pumps in action on Thursday night Woodfordes 'Wherry' and Adnams 'Best'. My mate and I opted for the Wherry which was very good.

Its certainly an atractive pub with many different items scattered around the place and in the ceiling rafters. I would imagine this is a real community local pub. As others have pointed out, not too far to the excellent 'Queens Head' from here.

Friendly "proper" pub, really good lunchtime food with extensive menu. This means it can get a little busy at lunchtime, particularly Fridays. So just get there a bit earlier...otherwise a good place for a quiet pint or several, particularly if you like Wherry. Sheila and the rest of the staff are lovely, shame about Mel! A good place to go, but NOT if you are a kn*b jockey intent on ruining other peoples' evenings ('cos they have the radio link, and your night out ends early in the custody suite). And yes, do mention the carpet...
