I feel a lot of the comments about the Walnut Tree miss the point. That any pub exists is testament to the progressive policies of the local council and the sensible, sensitive developers. I should state I have no connection to either. The 'new' pub might lack interior 'character' but ultimately this takes time to develop and evolve. Why should we expect all new build pubs to be banal pastiches of rustic country pubs? Surely if the British pub is to have a future, then it must evolve. As it happens, this particular pub serves an ever-changing range of well-kept ales and offers good, if not great value, food. CJG - 3 Jun 2008 11:38
this place retains nothing of the character of an old rural pub. - it reminds me of a dozen or more new housing development pubs in Milton Keynes. i should mention that the ale was fairly acceptable. There seemed to be plenty of staff, but most weren't doing much, so service was a little tardy. alehouses - 2 May 2008 12:10
The layout of the pub is terrible, the food is tracked through the bar (cramped at the best of times) into the eating area. It is rather disappointing that for what seems to be a food orientated pub that there is practically no waitress service. stolensunset - 30 Oct 2007 14:27
A good selection of beers here. The food is very good indeed, both at lunch and in the evenings. HenPen - 20 Oct 2007 22:48
| I popped in for a swift pint on 18 July 2007. This looks and feels like a modern building planted in a brand new housing development. It has the feel of a "wacky wharehouse" rather than a village pub and the bouncy castle must arrive soon! But clearly the place is energetically manged and trying to best meet the needs of the housing development. The pint was good, I did not have time to try the food.
