| Beers include Speckled Hen Abbott and IPA so no choice being a GK pub but I had an Aspells Cider @320p. Darren the Landlord was a great guy saying I could spend the night in my tent for £5 so I stayed the night in the large field at the back but the sight and sound of the RyanAir planes landing at the Airport which is 1 mile away were a big distraction. I live quite close to this pub and drop in often it has a huge garden which is never overcrowded and the place itself never seems so busy that you have a job to get served. The building is very quaint and it's worth a visit just for that but such a lovely place to sit on a summers day and very safe if you have kids as they normally have a bouncy castle etc and as I say a huge garden with tables outside. stitsevol - 14 Aug 2009 12:06 |
| I visited this Pub yesterday and where do I start? Had it not been for a report in the local rag telling that if one of the new suggestions for a second runway at Stansted went ahead then this pub face's being demolished I would not have known of its exsistence, if this proposal go'es ahead then it will be an act of the most dispicable vandalism. The building itself is a beautiful thatched place set on the edge of the green, plenty of parking to the side and rear with a large garden on the other side, Inside it truly is a real old world place, BUT GENUINE, small rooms with low beams, set on at least two levels, the darts board, which was getting a lot of use, (nice to see), is on a lower level than the bar and resturant areas. We had a terriffic Sunday lunch, one of the best I have ever had in a Pub,(Thats quite a few), huge slices of fresh roast beef,lovely fresh vegetables and the apple crumble dessert was a dream. Unfortunately unable to sample the beer on this occasion (GK IPA & Abbott), watching it being pulled it looked bright and crisp. I would say that this is a place where the guv'nor and his team have really worked out how to make a success of providing really good food for us grockles and retaining a proper pub for the locals without compromise on either side, the resturant was almost full when we arrived and yet when asked if we could eat there was no hesitation, a table was offered immediately and the whole attitude was of relaxed efficiency, the waitress was polite and courteous with a friendly smile despite apparently being the only waitress, and the guv'nor was a true host and last but certainly not least the Barmaid/Landlady, a more genuine smile from behind a bar I have yet to encounter, very proffessional, extremely attractive and worth a trip from Suffolk just to see her pull a pint, all in all a true all around Gem. (The Pub & the Barmaid) When considering the apparently bizzare attitudes of some who venture into running a Pub, I say that it would be a crying shame if people like the team at the Three Horseshoes were to lose their livelihood. | The closest pub to the airport terminal. A real old world English pub with low beams and traditional English food. I took a taxi from the airpot and was there in less than 5 minutes. The landlord even took me back to the airport as part of the service. Darren - 24 Mar 2006 13:01 |
