These guys took over November 2010, coming with an excellent reputation from a pub near Dorchester. Warm and friendly welcome, lovely comfortable surroundings on a wet and cold Saturday. Had a fantastic lunch, especially the homecooked ham. Try the chefs trifle - slipped down a treat. Good selection of wines and beers. Dog friendly. Prices about average or just slightly cheaper - 175ml glass house merlot £2.40.

New incumbents have been there two and a half months. Ringwood Best had just gone, so I tried the Doombar, which was fine, and I was also given a taste of the Summer Lightning, which I thought I didn't like, and I was proved right.
Must be OK here, as there's Tanqueray's gin on optic!
Apart from that, a quite interesting basic menu on a blackboard, with specials on other boards, and with a 8oz steak and all the trimmings at £7-50, this place has it right in my opinion. I wish them luck against the Punch arseholes.

Last called here 12-Sep-07 when a banner proclaimed 'New Management, New Attitude'. Well not much has changed. 3 hand pulls, Ringwood Best, Summer Lightning, and now Jennings Cumberland instead of 6X. The carpet has seen better days, and at end of lunch session with half a dozen or so locals in, we were made as welcome as the last correspondent. The Lightning scored 1.5 on the CAMRA NBSS, neither 'Clear' nor at its best. There is a separate eating area where I am told the food is quite reasonable.

If you aint local...... My word, not exactly the friendliest pub in the world. Two pints in and no one at the bar had said a word – not even to each other!! Deeply weird.

I stayed with my Lad for weekend in B&B right opposite this pub, so used it for main meals in the evenings. Very friendly staff and locals, extensive menu and excellent freshy cooked food. Cask ales well kept, and good rough cider. Sundays are quiz nights. Made stay in village very enjoyable. I am a non-smoker and didn't the smokers a problem.
