| Friendly rural pub. I hadn't been before. So I have nothing to compare it with. But the one side of the bar area did seem a little bare and devoid of character. 4 ales were on - George's Cockleboats Best Bitter & Wakering Gold, Dark Star Espresso & Maldon Sailing Barge Dawn. CAMRA members can get 20p off per pint. But there's no discount for halves. But it was far cheaper than the Victory Inn in Ashingdon anyway. No sign of any food as yet. | Nearly a year after I posted the previous note, there may be some light (literally) at the end of the tunnel for the Shepherd & Dog. I drove past yesterday evening and the internal lights (downstairs and up) were on, as well as the car park spotlights. Maybe just a security measure, but there seemd to be a different car parked down the side. I do hope this is a sign that this landmark pub/restaurant is finally getting some much-needed TLC. glenn9ball - 17 Feb 2015 16:31 |
| Sadly the Shepherd and Dog has bitten the dust and now closed. Seems to have been shut for at least a few months as the car park is looking overgrown and there's a caravan parked there for some reason. Whatever happened seems to have happened quite quickly as all the furniture is still in there and you can see a pile of bills on one of the tables. Nothing about the closure online. | Visited on 25 May in the course of a walk. The manager could not have been more friendly and pleasant, the food was excellent and the beer very good too. Will be arranging another walk soon to revisit this great pub. SpeedyTuft - 27 May 2013 18:02 |
