i must say i'm flattered by the latest review in relation to the 'Talk Sport' remark. In essence there are plenty of characters in this pub and the review is i'm afraid hopelessly naive in the extreme. Having spent most of my life in pubs this one has a lot to offer make no mistake about that.

Back in July, "Newshopper's" PubSpy gave this mediocre boozer a vanilla bland review, the local hack was too kind. When Will Parsons was in charge, the place became quite welcoming and homely, but the rot set in when he left and since February 2011 the decline has been terminal.
Remember the failed experiment that was "The Long Hop" ? The same Doctor Frankenstein has been let loose two miles North, leaving "The George" without any competition. Sure, the staff are friendly and the beers not too pricey, but there is no character or any characters left. This pub is now UKIP incarnate - confused, sad, inadequate and shabbily trying to hitch itself to the latest bandwagon. If "Talk Sport" was a pub, it would be "The Railway Tavern" in Meopham.

Popped into this pub a couple of times last week. The first time it was about 12 noon so not very busy. Later there were more people present, mostly locals several tucking into what looked to be good food.
A neatly laid out place with a collection of gauges on the wall and other railway memorabilia on show.
Friendly landlord. Not a great choice of real ales, Materbrew and Bombardier. Didn't try the MB but the Bombardier was fine.

I have some symphathy with the previous comment about the landlady who would do well to remember that pubs are in decline and her surly approach is regrettable too say the least, not matched by the younger staff who put her to shame somewhat. That's the negative, the positive is that this pub serves exceptional courage best which can still holds is own as a good pint.

Have to agree with spudsi on this!!
Went here just over 3 years ago,but i`m sure we are referring to the same person behind the bar!
Despite the welcome promised in my local newspaper ad,this woman was the most hostile dragon one could ever have the misfortune to meet(short, very dark hair). She commented (sarcastically ) on everything we asked about.
Sadly, her younger barstaff tried to be naturally polite, but it was obvious they were all in fear of her.
Landlady made us feel like we were an inconvenience, and made no effort to be friendly at all.
Waited ages for the food, after being told we couldn`t have the advertised offer!(no reason given)
Why the bad attitude????????????
It beggars belief that people like this even go into the pub business.
One pub i will avoid going to in the future.
