user reviews of the Red Lion, Adderbury

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is a main road hotel catering for passing trade and its residence. Very few locals use it because of its dreadful beer and expensive wine and food. Service is slowly provided by the mainly East European staff. The man referred to with the tie fettish is the manager, who also runs a sister hotel in Banbury (and often others at the same time) which means he can't always be around to keep his eye on standards, which are very low. A shame because it's a lovely looking pub from the outside! Greene King too!! Yuck!

What a shame -- the bar food menu has changed, jacket potatoes (among others) are off the menu. Now the menu is just like every other would-be gastropub in the vicinity -- meals you could heat up yourself from the local supermarket. The beer is still okay.

The best food bet here is to have a bar meal - generally good value. The bar staff are efficient and the beer range is limited but reliable. If you arrive early there is a particularly comfy sofa in one of the bars. One observation is that the bars areas do seem rather smoky, but thankfully this will not be the case after July 2007. We don't generally go for pubs alongside busy main roads (A4260) but this is an exception.

Went here for a meal recently and was totally disgusted. The head waiter in his "comedy" Yogi bear tie really pushed their specials menu, which I ordered. Having waited over an hour and a half for our mains, they finally arrived in bits and bobs. The tuna was stone cold, my steak arrived as every else was finishing and then I was sick. The waiter should spend more time training than induldging in his tie fetish. I would prefer to remove my own testicles with a rusty bread knife than return here. An experience.

This is a pub that Greene King aquired with the purchase of Old English Taverns. It is a large roadside inn that has been turned into a Gastro pub with rooms. Normal GK beers on sale, acceptable rather than great. Large menu which is very popular locally, a place to impress the relations rather than take your mates.
