I stayed here last week. It was a bit last minute and I needed somewhere with WiFi so I could work. The Devonshire Arms was far better than a 'lodge' of any description. Room was clean and tidy, beer was well kept although usual Greene King restricted selection. Food was absolutely excellent, extensive menu and everything freshly prepared. Staff were very friendly. if you are visiting Chatsworth this is a great pub at which to stay. Beargarden - 6 May 2008 15:39
Very friendly service and a nicely laid out series of bars partially made up for several problems: the food was not very good, one of the beers was undrinkable and a replacement was badly kept, and the toilets were in a poor state. SheffieldMickey - 13 Mar 2008 21:32
Having eaten in the area for years while on holiday we recently decided to hold a family reunion at the last minute at the Devonshire instead of our usual pub in the area. We've had a few meals and drinks there over the years and enjoyed it, but nothing on this scale. We couldn't have been made more at home, despite a late booking for over 20 people they were instantly obliging and the fact they were really busy as well made no difference. The food was excellent, a wonderful carvery and excellent home-made food on the menu, and all served with a smile and quickly. The beer was great (best pint of Abbot we've tasted yet!) and we were made to feel really at home. The bill was more than reasonable, and both the dogs were fed too from the meat scraps on the carvery- a bonus! Can't recommend it highly enough for either a good drink, a get-together or a quiet meal. We'll be going there more often in future. To be honest, there's no point in going anywhere else in the area unless you want a quiet sophisticated meal - in which you go to Fishers or Rowleys (or Charlie's Bistro if it's open). simonarmitage - 29 Oct 2007 15:13
Visited recently, there were 10 of us and we were accomodated well by very friendly staff. The beer range is Greene King unfortunately and wasn't great. The food received mixed reviews, some enjoyed, some didn't, my Duck was well over done and dry, but my wifes chicken was good. The pub is big but comfortable with alcoves to sit in. It's ok, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. imdownthepub - 4 Sep 2007 17:30
We took our dog (Benjy) for a walk through Chatsworth last Saturday and we decided and popped into the Devonshire Arms for some lunch. We were pleasantly welcomed by the bar staff. I ordered my favourite Ale Abbot, which is very well kept. My wife ordered a chicken and ham salad off their snack menu which she enjoyed very much and I chose to have the carvery, which was fantastic, it was all fresh vegatebles and the Beef was cooked to perfection. One of the bar girls brought a biscuit and a bowl of water over to our table for Benjy which he appreciated very much. We will definitley be going back soon. JDonny - 24 Apr 2007 16:52
