We called in at the Star & Garter last Saturday having worked up a good appetite walking the downs. The pub was very busy & we had prepared ourselves to eat in the garden as we had not booked a table. The landlord was very accommodating holding a table for us as another party were just leaving. We tried the local beer, 'Arundal Gold' not really to my taste as I prefer 'Ringwood Best'. The food was really good. I had chicken supreme served with perfectly cooked fresh vegetables. I had no quibble paying £13.50 as this was worth every penny. I know this is a gastro pub but the staff are efficient and friendly. The interior has been tastefully done and has created an old pub feeling, warm & welcoming. My wife reccomends the 'Sticky Figgy Sponge Pudding' positively orgasmic she say's. John.T - 14 Jan 2008 10:03
Great menu which majors on fish but makes room for some interesting sounding game too. Big seafood platters caught our eye as we sat at the bar enjoying a glass of Ballards drawn from the barrel, as did several ways to enjoy mussels and a game grill featuring venison, pheasant and rabbit. Pub has been blasted back to bleached wood and brick in an appealing manner. Good-looking wine list. Much more a restaurant now than a pub but retaining lots of character myPetersfield - 27 Apr 2007 00:15
Contemporary conversion of previously shabby pub has breathed new life into village-centre location. Best known for excellent food it has a good selection of Ballards on gravity feed tucked out the back. Nice garden makes it an ideal summer location. trikemaniac - 15 Feb 2006 13:05
