Has had a major makeover this year....... rather gastro style. The barrels of real ale behind the bar have gone and it has lost the pub atmosphere. Tend to be full of thirty somethings with laptops and smart phones. Beer and food are fine if a little on the high priced side.

I'm surprised at some of reviews for this place, as I found it to be a lovely old pub, with real character, beautiful both inside and out. I sat by a roaring fireplace in one of the little rooms off the bar, and greatly enjoyed it on a recent Tuesday lunchtime, returning to a village I used to live in as a child for the first time in very many years.

I had a couple of pints of a pleasant ale, and a plate of scampi and chips that I found both well-cooked and substantial.

It does, however, lose one point from me because the landlord some 25 years ago (I imagine he's dead by now) had an affair with a young barmaid, who happened to be my mother, and we had to move away. Brian I think his name was, the filthy fecker.

Nice pub though.

Really very disappointed with this place overall. We've been several times, living nearby, but hadn't been for quite a while and thought we'd give it another go. The background music being played was not only awful but far too loud. I personally have trouble hearing conversation when ambient noise levels are too high, but others in the party also commented on the loudness and dreadful quality of the music, especially given the small size of the room we were in. This was compounded by the fact that our food order - a salad and three burgers - took nearly an hour to arrive. When it did arrive, the chicken, bacon and avocado salad was without avocado. After being requested, a few small slices of avocado were unceremoniously dumped onto the table. One of our portions of chips had large fragments of old papadum in amongst it. The desserts were ok, although the crumble was microwaved to within an inch of its life and a large part of it was inedible. Had the food and service been perfect, the 60 bill would have still been a little high for four mains (one of which was a salad), three desserts, and one or two (small!) drinks each.

Nice pub located in a rural location on the edge of Binfield. The old building has 2 or 3 comfortable rooms, plus outdoor seating on a patio and garden at the front. A range of food is available. Beers were Marstons Pedigree, Courage Directors, Wychwood Hobgoblin & Thwaites Grouse Beater. 3 of these are gravity dispensed. Be careful how much the young staff are charging you.
