A really nice old-fashioned pub with friendly efficient service. 5 ales available. I had a pint of Caledonian which was well kept. wirraldrinker - 14 Jan 2013 11:43
It all started so well. I was served promptly by a friendly barmaid. Caledonian 80 Shillings - not a beer you see all that regularly. Alas, things went downhill. The beer was just drinkable, but had a definite vinegar tinge. My partner took both pints back. Apparently it was the end of the barrel, so they agreed to replace it. Cain's Bitter this time. Even worse condition, just a very strange flavour. I asked whether perhaps they'd given me the wrong beer, but no, it was just poorly kept. I had been looking forward to discovering the fine pubs of Crosby. Unfortunately, the only place I'd ever bother revisiting is the Stamps. Northern_Ale_Monkey - 5 Aug 2010 13:58
It feels a bit small because it is always busy with quiet, pleasant, friendly locals that were easy to have a chat with. Dogs are allowed in the bar area but not in the lounge. Good range of beers with a high turnover of barrels - has CAMRA awards on the walls from the last few years. Sorry to eddygilroy ( his post may have been removed by the time you read this) about losing your job - I dont think that you were in the best frame of mind for writing a pub review and I hope things turn around for you. Next time I am visiting the area this will be the place I visit. scragm - 22 Feb 2009 22:55
A lovely, clean pub with friendly bar staff and a well-kept cellar. Has 3 different guest beers on regularly. Lucylocket123 - 11 Sep 2008 16:21
