After reading the reviews on this pub, I thought I must add one. We have been to the Oak on the green many times and absolutely love it. The food is superb (chicken Piri Piri my favourite) It is always busy and has a great atmosphere. I would recommend it to anyone - we are always proud to take our friends there. harrietbo - 29 May 2008 17:15
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE OAK ON THE GREEN. I HAVE JUST ARRIVED HOME FROM AN EXCELLENT THREE NIGHT STAY AT THE TUDOR PARK HOTEL, NEAR BEARSTED. ON OUR SECOND DAY, WE WERE LOOKING FOR A LOCAL PUB TO HAVE LUNCH, AND WERE RECOMMENDED TO TRY THE OAK ON THE GREEN. I HAD THE STARTER OF CRISPY BRIE, WHICH WAS HUGH, BUT DELICIOUS AND MY HUSBAND HAD THE PATE, WHICH HE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED (I CAN'T COMMENT ON THIS, AS I AM NOT A PATE FAN). FOR THE MAIN COURSE, I HAD CHICKEN BURRITO, WHICH AGAIN WAS DELICIOUS AND MY HUSBAND HAD THE FILLET STEAK WITH PEPPERCORN SAUCE. THE STEAK WAS COOKED PERFECTLY, WITH A LOVELY CREAMY PEPPERCORN SAUCE AND HUGH - HE COULDN'T MANAGE IT ALL, WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR HIM. WE WERE INTENDING GOING BACK TO THE TUDOR PARK FOR A SWIM IN THE AFTERNOON, BUT WERE FAR TOO FULL! WE ENDED UP G0ING BACK TO THE OAK ON THE GREEN THE FOLLOWING EVENING AND AGAIN THE FOOD AND SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. I WOULD RECOMMEND BOOKING, AS BOTH TIMES WE WERE THERE, THE PUB WAS VERY BUSY. joannas - 24 May 2008 10:03
I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN A REVIEW BEFORE TO PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF THIS APPEARS A LITTLE ROUGH AROUND THE EDGES,I AM SURE YOU WILL GET THE POINT! I was in this pub last night with my girl friend,It was packed solid inside and out and it had a real summertime feel about it,Toni (my girlfriend)had hurt her leg eventing recently and could not stand for long periods of time so as there were no seats left we decided to have one drink and go(she could not drive so I could not have more than one beer any way) We both had finished when a member of the staff said 'going so soon' I explained about the sitting down issue. 30 seconds later two girls had jumped up from there table and insisted we take it(we later found out the were local riding instructors so sympathised with Toni.) To cut a long story and fantastic night short, we stayed there for almost 3 hours had the very best chicken fajitas we have ever had! (We even had a mexican cookery lesson from the chef later!!) Thank you so much Mark,Regina, Pipo, and gang for a fantastic start to the week end and beware, we are bringing a whole bunch of people with us....Jonti K. ps (We are there again tonight). jonti - 24 May 2008 09:56
sadly a grt place that will always be busy,so there may be an aire of complacency on their part.one of the chefs that worked there is now at the hook and hatchet at hucking and the food there is very good now.i would drive past now and go to the hook or the black horse at thurnham.shame!! petenalfiedog - 13 May 2008 11:15
| I have just had the worst meal of my life. I have been going to the Oak on the Green since it opened and it used to be great, mouth watering steaks, really good home cooked food. However over the last few years it has got worse and worse and the last few times I have been we have not paid for all or part of our meal for various reasons. When we got there tonight it took them 5 minutes to acknowledge us waiting at the bar for our table - despite the manager looking up at us from his paperwork several times. The service was slower than if the food had been delivered from Scotland. My Fathers steak was well done not medium well and almost cremated it was so crispy, when we complained the waitress said it was have that or wait 30 mins for another. All in all it took 90 minutes to get our main courses. Then no one came to check how our meals were and it appeared we had been forgotten about. We sat and waited and waited and in the end we actually called the pub to get our bill on our mobile phone - they bought the bill over 15 minutes later with no apology and with the steak we complained about and someone elses drink bill added on. All I have to say is if you want lousy service, waitresses with attitude problems, food that isnt what you ordered and is just frozen food reheated then go to the Oak, if you want something better then go to McDonalds.
