Nothing special, that's all I can say really!

The G&D lives again - unrecognisable from a couple of years ago! Lots of regulars as well as room guests from around the country (and world). Great atmosphere and good selection of ales including non Greene King guests - Olde Skipper, Golden Glow and Rev. James recently. Wine list is also good - no Hardy's/Jacobs Creek etc. All the staff seem happy to be there and are really friendly, Queenie is a scream! Fantastic food too. Fridays and the weekends in particular are superb.

Shocking!!! Virtually ignored when we walked in. The beer was non-existant. Even with only an abysmal choice of IPA and Abbott on the hand pumps both where not on. So no Ales! So I went for the Heineken and that was off as well. A pint of disgusting fizzy cider then. The price of a round of drinks was extortionate. I thought this pub would be great and have heard good things but in reality it was one of the most pathetic pubs i have ever visited. A nice building in the middle of an affluent village and should be making a fortune but I wouldnt be surprised if it shut soon. 1/10

The best customer service I have ever experienced. We held a surprise dinner here for my dad's 70th at the weekend. The staff were so helpful setting up tables for presents, putting on the table confetti, finding me bottles of bubbly - all good stuff. My dad was delighted when he turned up for a quiet meal and found his children and grandchildren waiting. All going well and then my 7 year old gets a fishbone stuck in her throat. I did the usual - eat some bread, cough, drink - but she became really distressed so I called NHS direct who said "straigh to A&E" Well - it was an hour and a half into the celebrations and we were all staying over and had all had a few. The manager, Mark, got on the phone to the local doctor to check which A&E would be best as we were half way between Bury St Edmunds and Colchester. Mark then insisted on driving me and my daughter the 20 odd miles to Colchester - with a loo stop on the way (when kids have to go they have to go!) WAITIED 3 HOURS with us and drove us back again at 1am. I hope Mark gets to see this review - I have never experienced customer service like this and I have stayed in many hotels around the world. So readers - please do call into the G&D and let him know I recommended it and please spend lots of money! Next time I'm in the area it's my first stop. Thank you to everyone at the G&D. Sam x

Great food in there now. The atmosphere's not what it was, but nice open pub with plenty of choice for drinks.
