18:15, 29/08/06 - Lounge locked up tight, Public bar had two people in and one of them was the barman. I was only in for 30 seconds, and I could feel the smoke at the back of my throat - obviously no extractor switched on at all.

No real ales on at all. Not one. Not a sausage. Bugger all. So I gave my money to the Britannia instead.

Great pub this; a classic no-nonsense boozer. Pool table is impossible to play unless you get a diidy cue (which they can provide) and the karaoke when it happens is a mixed bag but; hey, it's my mate's dads pub, gotta be 10/10!

Surprised at the previous comment as the lounge is very popular, the bar is very much a local but all are welcome. Real ale on tap at the moment are Wells Bombardier, J Smiths Cak, Marstons Pedigree, Jennings Cumberland and Tetleys Dark Mild. Theres now a real cider on called Addlestones. They also have J Smiths extra smooth, Camerons Strong Arm chilled, Guinness, and Tetleys Imperial. Lagers are Fosters and Carling extra cold, with the two ciders Woodpecker and Strongbow. Have a chat to Jerry he doesn't bite.

Please note that this is very much a regulars pub and not one of the most inviting places , especially if you are a young male with a group of friends enjoying a night out .

This pub is popular with off duty police officers ( from the main Police Station nearby ) and visitors to the Civic Theatre , which is situated just over the road .

For a more relaxed atmosphere and welcome , walk straight passed this pub in to the town centre , and visit the Nags Head on Tubwell Row ( before you reach the Town Clock ) .
