The food is of a very good quality although the service is slow but the staff are friendly. Amazed that a previous reviewer had descibed the decor as like a tarts boudoir as my wife said exactly the same and she did not post the earlier review. This was our second visit and I would visit again but on both occasions I have had to ask for a bill at the bar before paying for the meal which is a sloppy practice and then found out I had been overcharged by a few quid on both visits. A coincidence I am sure but it does not look good when you are not given a bill for a meal.

Horrendous little pub. Looks really nice outside so boy was we in for a shock when we walked in. Assuming they was going for a tarts boudoir look well they almost achieved it, looks VERY tacky. Had one drink then left, will not return.

Seems to be more a restaurant than a pub, though there are areas for drinkers.
Decor is very tacky, looks like a harem in a bollywood musical.
Table service incredibly slow. 2 drinks took more than 5 minutes to arrive despite the place not being too busy. Menus given to us when we ordered the drinks but they didn't take the order until 15 minutes after bringing the drinks (other tables seemed to get equally slovenly service). Food, when it finally arrived, almost an hour after we sat down, was admittedly very good. Waited 10 minutes for server to bring dessert menu, after he offerred to fetch one. He never came back, so we paid at bar and left.
Top marks for food, low marks for service, only had a shandy as driving so unable to judge the beer.

The Dog and Duck has now found its purpose and is well established locally as a fine restaurant-pub. I attended a family function there yesterday and had (several ) great pints of Moreland's , well Greene King's, Old Speckled Hen. It was well kept, had a good temperature and was well presented.
The place is teeming with excellent staff and the food was magnificent. Gone is the dart board where my wife and I used to play in the tap room and so is the tap room! The decor now is lavish and may be too fussy for some tastes but this is still a pub where you can a sit down in comfort and chat and enjoy an excellent pint of ale and then clear-off and grab a bag of chips on the way home if you like; and I do. Congratulations to the new owners.

much posher than it used to ... catering for the tourist trade... food is ok... too close to Mansfield to be very classy... not good for a quiet pint
