I think it is manifestly clear that the previous three comments are part of a petty vendetta that is being waged after some perceived slight over a glass of water, and while the reference to soup like "warthog snot" has givem us all a cheep laugh, the "reviews" in question bear no resemblance to the Royal Oak. This is a very popular food-orientated pub in the centre of town, the only criticism that can be made being that the beer is somewhat over-priced. stanley_C - 15 Nov 2008 12:15
Rude staff, food was poor, cold and rather steeply priced, don't order soup unless you enjoy the slimy texture of warthog snot. They also do refuse to serve tap water (as others have mentioned) which I believe is illegal. Do not visit this pub unless you like being served by flea bitten peasants with the mange and sitting in a darkened room that smells of urine and sweat. Gradius - 14 Oct 2008 11:39
I visited this pub recently and had a drink and lunch. The food was poor and over-priced and - worst of all - whilst I was there, the Landlady had a standup row with a woman and her child, refusing her a drink of tap water. I certainly wouldn't visit again. jennifer_oxon2 - 11 Oct 2008 20:48
I was there recently and was appalled to hear another customer being denied a glass of tap-water for his breast-feeding wife. My meal tasted limp and ratty. I won't be going again. speedofthepuma - 11 Oct 2008 20:40
As far as I am aware, the Royal Oak is not a restaurant, and it serves "just drinks" to all non-dining customers. On the other hand, I can imagine that ill-mannered yobs will not be served food OR drink. stanley_C - 15 Jan 2008 13:20
