We recently visited The New Inn after its successful reopening. Having been a regular many moons ago, it is so nice to see the place busy again after its disasterous spell as "The Badger on th Heath". We decided to pay a vist. The ale (Hobgoblin) was outstanding, along with the choice of menu. I had a steak which was one of the best I had ever eaten in all of my 58 years and my wife had the Seabass fishcakes which she enjoyed very much. The overall experience was delightful. The staff were so pleasant and attentive which is a rarity these days. We enjoyed our visit so much we tried to book for Sunday Lunch, which to our disappointment was fully booked, and I can see why! Looking forward to this Sunday though!! matureobserver - 2 Nov 2009 18:05
Pub is in the middle of nowhere so it should stake its reputation on its food. Staff: was impressed on both occasions because they were very nice and helpful. Had a meal there during the first week of opening and it was OK. Cheese in breadcrumbs starter was good. Steak was cooked properly and salad was reasonable. Wife thoroughly enjoyed her garlic mushrooms and steak. Left a reasonable tip. Second time, several weeks later, everything seemed to be *microwaved*. Starter tasted rubbery and wasn't consistent temperature throughout as if it had been microwaved from frozen. My main was definitely microwaved chicken breast (ie no sign of being browned in the pan or grilling) - not that great for a 'New York Style' chicken breast. So it seems either the standard has dropped in a few short weeks or I was just lucky the first time that I didn't order anything which could be microwaved instead of being cooked properly. My advice - order mains like steak which won't be microwaved. Wife's dinner looked microwaved from frozen too. I feel bad for not tipping because the staff were very helpful but the food was just not great on the second occasion somewhereoverthe - 30 Oct 2009 00:29
We stumbled across this little original brick built pub on a quiet road between Stratford and Banbury. They have just changed hands (less than a week in!) and the interior is really nice, the staff very friendly and welcoming and the food (given they have only just opened) both extensive in it's choice, well presented, good value and prompt. Starters range from the more traditional to things like monkfish - which is a really nice feature on whats essentially a pub menu. My boyfriend had steak (one of many choices of cut aqnd size) and I had the steak pie (delicious, with my only comment being that the pastry could have been a little more golden). Both were cooked well. The menu boasts regional produce - and its clear this in the case. The meat is great and attention to vegetables and potatoes is demonstrated in the quality of both. We sat in the conservatory which overlooks vast unspoilt countryside. Well worth a visit, we were impressed in their first week. rachel.francis - 1 Sep 2009 20:54
