user reviews of the Boat Inn, Thrupp

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We were on a canal boat and headed for this pub last Friday. The hireboat company told us the Jolly Boatman (nearby) was better for food, and the Boat best for ale. Weather was cold and damp so we went straight for the Boat which had limited free mooring space. How very nice this pub is. Warm and friendly in every way. Very pleasant manager and bar staff, and lots of pleasant people enjoying the evening. One local told us that new management took over last month (September)and that the place was really looking up. Couldn't fault the place. Very well kept beer (Morrells and Brakespears as the guest ales in this Greene King pub) and an excellent menu. Food was lovely and not over expensive. Super place. Can throroughly recommend it.

Nice looking pub on the Oxford canal at the end of the terrace of houses which makes up the classic canal houses of Thrupp. The bar is pleasant enough although the snug is cosier. Nice garden out the back. Real ales are reasonably kept and can include ones from interesting breweries, but not always. The food is good but a bit on the pricey side. Service is good and ythe landlord (who I am sure is actually Rod Stewart!) is attentive.
