Perhaps my favourite Oxford boozer. Friendly staff and the added bonus of a late bar at the weekend so middle aged degenerates can stay on the sauce without the disgrace of the disco. The beer is always well kept, but limited to the Greene King approved list, which is my only gripe. Well, apart from the prat who keeps putting the same four Springsteen songs on the jukebox over and over again every Friday and Saturday. cheesyal - 8 Apr 2010 23:10
Popped in last night for a quick drink on our way up the Iffley road. I had an excellent pint of Olde Trip, although the soft drink options weren't great. The barman was very friendly and there was a good atmosphere in the pub. Worth a visit I reckon. BotleyBen - 24 Oct 2009 10:31
Ignore old comments. This place is *SO* much better than it used to be. I've had great Sunday roasts here and they do nice home-cooked pizzas, too. mugwump - 1 May 2009 13:30
Went to the Fir Tree last week to find it is now under new management, so the mangy dogs have gone. It's had a thorough clean and is looking really good, though the old charm hasn't gone (nor the excellent juke box!). Apparently they're going to start doing food in August. Definitely worth checking out again if you're in the Cowley/Iffley Road area and want a cosy, friendly, pleasantly quirky neighbourhood pub. Eden - 13 Jul 2007 11:01
This pub is gross. The last time I went, one of the dogs shat on the floor right in front of me. The landlady just laughed and wiped it up, which seems to suggest it was not the first time it happened. The dogs also jump on the tables when they are playing -filthy! And oh yes, the beer selection is unusually poor. Will not be going back. hepo - 12 Apr 2007 21:57
