It was a shame that it closed but it will be reopening on the 13th March, under new ownership, and with two new chefs. check out their new website at www.thecrownoldbasing.com for details. martinjsteven - 27 Feb 2011 21:46
I agree with Spiggy. What a shame it closed. Best of luck to Adrian, Lydia and all the staff. I always thought the beer was excellent EdBeery - 22 Nov 2010 16:11
Sadly, The Crown has closed and is now boarded up. Let's hope it's bought as a going concern. spiggytopes - 7 Sep 2010 21:07
I've been to this pub a few times and the best I've found the ale is average. I have never had a pint that is crystal. On one occasion when I arrived just after opening time, I was given a topped up glass from some ale that was in a glass sitting on the drip tray? The pint was warm and tasted old, when I questioned it I was told that there was nothing wrong with it and it wasn't replaced. I should know what's good or bad - I'm a brewer by trade. I have not been back since. purpleronnie - 20 Oct 2009 14:30
| ..... always seems to be packed on a Friday night,.. although it's so small it may just appear to be that busy... If you go there for a couple of beers before walking to the Millstone it's great,... but wouldn't spend all night in there,..... The decor is a little bit of a let down aswell,... for a pub right next to Basing House, and with doors you have to duck to get through. they could have made it look a little more atmospheric!
