It was a shame that it closed but it will be reopening on the 13th March, under new ownership, and with two new chefs. check out their new website at www.thecrownoldbasing.com for details.

I agree with Spiggy.

What a shame it closed.

Best of luck to Adrian, Lydia and all the staff.

I always thought the beer was excellent

Sadly, The Crown has closed and is now boarded up. Let's hope it's bought as a going concern.

I've been to this pub a few times and the best I've found the ale is average. I have never had a pint that is crystal. On one occasion when I arrived just after opening time, I was given a topped up glass from some ale that was in a glass sitting on the drip tray? The pint was warm and tasted old, when I questioned it I was told that there was nothing wrong with it and it wasn't replaced. I should know what's good or bad - I'm a brewer by trade.
I have not been back since.

..... always seems to be packed on a Friday night,.. although it's so small it may just appear to be that busy...

If you go there for a couple of beers before walking to the Millstone it's great,... but wouldn't spend all night in there,.....

The decor is a little bit of a let down aswell,... for a pub right next to Basing House, and with doors you have to duck to get through. they could have made it look a little more atmospheric!
