| The downstairs cellar bar, or the front beer garden are pretty pleasant places to sit and have a drink. Quality of the beer can vary, usually to do with whether you buy a "slow seller" or not. It can get loud in the cellar bar if they have a DJ on (it's not the best layout for that sort of thing) but if your in Lendal, then I would choose this pub every time over Varsity across the road. | A funny mixed up place. Very large building, which is mostly given over to a fairly smart city centre style hotel. Then on the ground floor, quite a nice restaurant. But in the basement, and out the back, is a large bar, open to public, serving its own (basic) food. Drinks ok, surroundings alright, but can be very hot & smokey, and loud on the nights when they have DJs on.
