As Camerons no longer, thank God, have anything to do with the Carlton we can ignore the comments referring to them. It was with a pretty deep suspicion that I went to the pub after the change of ownership. OK the decoration is pretty tired, but the staff and the food have improved out of all knowledge as has the beer. Marston's pedigree is a first class pint and the price is good into the bargain both for the food and the drink.

After living out of the area for 3 years or so, I payed a a visit to this pub last Sunday & have to say was pleasently suprised. Since my last visit the pool table, juke box and sky tv have been removed and it is now alot more comfortable. The carvery available was very nice & the Pedigree cask on top form. Also noticable was the distinct reduction of tracksuits and baseball caps, not one in sight. I will be back there on a regular basis.

@oneofthekingsmen - Camerons is brewed in Hartlepool. Name me some of the other "crap things" to have come out of Sunderland......

BTW I also dislike this place intensely, an amusement arcade masquerading as a pub.

What a horrible place this is. We visited as a family group last Sunday - a relative had made the booking on the basis of accessibility for all. Big mistake. The "food" was inedible, the whole place filthy, the staff ignorant and unhelpful, and the customers in general looked as though they had just been released from a high security prison. To add insult to injury the snow hadn't been cleared from the driveway or car park and there were people falling all over the place.

This is the worst pub and place i have ever stayed in. I actually stayed in the "hotel" appartments at the rear of this pub which were like under a bridge in downtown harlem. The rooms smell of damp and rotten woodwork, foundations and previous tennants. The toilets and taps did not work and when this was complained about the little upstart of a manager just huffed and puffed (what a looser). The windows did not shut properly and were rotten anyway. The whole place was disgusting with insects and filth in all parts of the rooms. I dod not expect too much at £35 per night but this place was pure filth and smelt of mould.

The pub had a few locals in who were dressed in their local best of jogging bottoms, vests, cheap bling and screaming down their mobile phones because they want to get attention. The food was not even tried by any of our party as we got a glimpse of the kitchens which looked like a latrine after a bout of stomach ache. DO NOT STAY at this place it is rotten to the core and a disgrace to the hotel industry. It needs to be shut down.
