Busy, but big enough to avoid the usual City bar crush. Lots of staff on, and two handpumps hidden away amongst the shiny lager dispensers. Easily the most over-chilled pint of Pride I've ever tasted, and not really my type of place, but it did seem to have a good atmosphere. rpadam - 14 May 2008 22:30
The Gable used to be great for pulling birds. Like so many new bars in the area however, as the birds arrived the sausages did too. The fresh summer smell of perfurm on soft warm female skin has been replaced by eau de fat city trader sweat. The irony of course is that the girls used to come here to find traders and all the men knowing this come dressed as traders but are really local workman wearing their suits they've bought in especially to go out on the Friday. You can tell by the paint on the back of their ears. There are some cracking staff behind the bar however, they have some of the best hired guns in the city. The little blonde is very tasty. As for my boss Tim, I'n pleased he's heeding the will of the team and so for that I'm going to withdraw my Downing Street petition to close the Williamson's. AaronRobinson - 9 Nov 2007 14:42
Is a standard City bar, a safe pair of hands if needing a place for a drink. Food is ok, if a bit overpriced (but where isn't round here let's face it). Staff are friendly enough, have not lasted long enough to comment on their 11.30pm throwing out policy. The downstairs bar is very nice, bit more atmosphere than upstairs which can be a bit like a air hangar. This is our company 'local' I suppose-is decent enough, but I don't do PR so won't gush about it like Dave71's paid review below. bootsyjam - 15 Jun 2006 13:34
Been invited to this city bar last week with my firm for a Do' and, not expecting it, i had a very good night... all our team loved it as well. The service that this guys gave us was amazing, coming to check us every 10 minutes, bringing us buckets of beers and wine for the girls we did not had to move to go to the bar... The buffet style food who had been ordered was just perfect, much better that the usual stuff you get in the city, mix of vegetarian dishes, pizzas and tasty original ideas like those chiken + chorizo brochettes... and in quantity. We all finished dancing on cheesy Micheal Jackson (well we where all drunk at that stage...) I went back there yesterday for a beer and the staff, who remembered my name warmly welcomed us. We've definetly find our local now!!! siamoze - 31 May 2006 12:43
I'm not trying to turn this review section into a discussion board, but I'd like to respond to dave71's comments. My review was an honest account of a Friday night at the pub. I've worked in the city for an IT company for 3 years so I know most round this way, and was simply unimpressed with this one. Perhaps it is better on quiet nights, but my rating remains the same (note, I haven't rated again with this post, to keep things fair). If I was a bitter landlord, why would I point people towards their other pub, the Prophet!? superfibre - 11 Feb 2006 15:20
