This pub has reverted to its previous name The Star. It was disappointing. No real ales were on when we arrived. Apparently they had equipment problems and were struggling to dispense them. Whilst we were there, they did manage to pour Doom Bar through. It has a good reputation for food. But nobody was eating during our visit. There were no other customers when we arrived. But 2 men and 2 dogs frequented the front bar whilst we were there and there was somebody else in a rear dining area near the kitchens. The worst pub of 12 tried on this visit to the island.

Possibly the best pub on the Isle of Wight.

Very well kept selection of real ale (3 I think) and good lager selection.

Food on my visit was superb, excellent quality and very good value for money.

Bus stop right outside the pub which runs till late in the evening.

While the welcome and service was faultless on our Saturday evening visit while staying in town the food was well below par, especially so considering the prices. Between our two steaks both were done very rare when we requested medium, chips and saut potatoes were soggy and limp, the onion rings weren't crisp and the mushrooms tasteless. We tried The Worsley up the road later in the week where the food was much better. We didn't risk any beer, just stuck to lager.

Very welcoming and friendly. Both the beers and food are always impressive, with regular changing specials. Very popular and good quiz nights on Sunday evenings out of season.
