| We visited this pub before and after our recent game at Hull. A straightforward ten minute walk from the station, it’s easy to find and worth seeking-out. Very friendly staff and punters, a great selection of beers, and whilst there’s no food served by the pub, they’re more than happy to let you bring food into the pub; there’s a sandwich shop round the corner that knocks-out cracking roast beef/pork baps. Very nice. The pub itself isn’t anything spectacular to look at, but it’s a comfortable spot, they have a beer garden and it’s also within walking distance of the ground; just follow the crowds. No hint of trouble at all as home and away fans mixed very happily, and I’d definitely recommend this as a great little find if you’re going up to Hull for the football. | Have lived in Hull for years, but only just discovered this gem ! I'm depressed it's taken me this long to find it! Superb range of beers. If I didn't love real ale so much, I would be able to spend a very long time, (and a lot of money) enjoying the huge range of continental lagers in the giant walk in fridge, visible from the bar. And not forgetting Bernard, my favourite Czech beer from a visit to Prague, and now available on draught (for the first time in the UK) from this pub. :-) But all of this is set aside for the main event of may be 8 hand pulled beers, from cider to mild, porters and light ales. They change after every beer, so if you find oneyou like, you best enjoy it, because it may not be around for long! A tour de force in exploring the heritage of our national drink! It took a long time to find, but I'll make sure I make up for it in the future! cupdecha - 9 May 2008 23:11 |
| Brilliant pub. 6 real ales yesterday: Ossett IPA and Silver Fox, Leeds Midnight Bell, Abbeydale Absolution, Tetley and one they came on just as we were leaving. Draft Maredsous 8, Erdinger, St Louis Kriek and a Czech beer Bernard. Over 70 bottled Belgians together with German and US beer. Was quiet when we got in at about 12.30 on Saturday afternoon, filled up with football supporters home and away. A must visit. GuideDogSaint - 16 Mar 2008 13:18 |
| Went here for a couple of pre-match Sunday lunchtime pints before heading to the rugby and found it better than ever since the introduction of the smoking ban. Glentworth Donny Star (a light hoppy best bitter) came on tap just before I had to leave; I managed to squeeze in a half and it was nectar. One of my favourite pubs in the country at the moment. | What an excellent pub! This was the final stop on my Hull crawl of 25/01/08, and was a perfect finishing point. On arrival, the pub was buzzing with conversation, and I found a comfortable stool at the bar. I was soon in conversation with several locals, no shortage of friendliness on offer! Of the 7 or 8 ales available on handpump I enjoyed the following: Vale VPA - refreshing session bitter Copper Dragon Black Gold - delectable mild Leeds Best - bitter hoppy IPA Leeds Midnight Bell - a black beauty. Although I didn't venture into their extensive world beer range, it is worth noting there are well over one hundred such beers available, and a continental style beer menu is kept at the bar for the connoisseur's perusal. Very friendly and accommodating landlord & landlady - Richard and Janette - filled me in on a lot of background info. They run the pub with love and enthusiasm which rubs off on everyone. This is one of Hull's best pubs, DO visit and you will not be let down in any way. lad_newton - 29 Jan 2008 00:19 |
