The King Alfred's Head is now under new Ownership, with an all new menu. Also there are cocktails on offer, prices have gone down (although crisps are still 1, the same as most pubs), the function room is free to hire for 20+ people and there are various meal deals on from Monday to Thursday.
Pop in on a Friday and enjoy BOGOF on Champagne Cocktails, go in for a breakfast anytime up to 4pm or enjoy a traditional roast on a Sunday

Pub had 4 ales on - Bath SPA, Black Sheep bitter, Caledonian Wit beer & St Austells Tribute. Bath SPA was fine if a little hazy. Came here after White Horse Half Marathon & all 3 of us stuck with some decent starters - I had the soup which was fine. Lovely sunny day & we all sat outside. Worth checking out to see if any new guest beers.

The King Alfreds Head is a rare little gem. There is a warm welcome to greet your arrival, a choice of real ales and a relaxing atmosphere either in the bar or outside in the spacious courtyard. The bistro style menu is interesting and I found it hard to make a choice for dinner. The food is excellent as is the wine list and all are served by attentive, helpful staff. The restaurant is in a separate area just to the side of the bar and there is plenty of room between the tables. I was particularly impressed by the added touches, real flowers on the tables, damask napkins, the landlord taking a genuine interest in our comfort. All in all, a highly pleasurable experience at a very reasonable price.

One of the best pubs ever. Best pint of San Miguel in the area, all non smoking, and the food is fantastic.

amazing food. You will find find better for miles and it is a gem of a place for a small town like Wantage. I live in London and cannot wait to come here when I visit my folks. The food is exceptional and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The head chef is a guy called Daryll Taylor who has cooked with some of the best chefs in the world before deciding to settle in Wantage! You have to book these days as its getting busier all the time.
