fascinating pub with pictures of dead rod caught sharks hanging up everywhere(before we knew better)
Brilliant freindly bar staff with reasonably priced pub food.

The Salutation and the Ship Inn (which I have previously reviewed) are almost opposite each other on Fore Street in Looe, but the atmosphere and the ambience in the Salutation are poles apart from those in the Ship. Admittedly the beer choice isn’t so good … only Doom Bar on the hand pumps … but the couple of pints that I had were pretty good. And the Salutation being much smaller has a much more homely and friendly feel.

Although we didn’t eat here, the food looked excellent and was quite reasonably priced. We arrived just after 7pm when things were already pretty busy, but when we left an hour or so later the pub was heaving … with folk queuing waiting to pounce as soon as a table became vacant. I guess that you can’t get a much better recommendation then that !!!

I agree that this is the best pub in Looe, but lets be realistic there aint a lot to beat..... very expensive and why do the owners let the bar staff do all the work ?

Ok but expensive £2.95 for carlsberg?

Doom is very nice though and staff are pleasant

For my money, the best pub in Looe (and I've tried most, if not all, of them). Warm and welcoming. No television (hooray). Well kept ale; the Doom Bar was very nice when I was last there on Fri 23rd Nov 2007. Lunchtime food is inexpensive and tasty. The lamb hotpot being pronounced particularly good by my companions. If you're in Looe, I recommend this place as first port of call before any others.
