please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Been driving past for a couple of years, pub seemed to be closed for a while. Decided to pop in finally to see what it was like, as the car park has been resurfaced and there are pots of plants and flowers outside. Very pleasantly surprised. The new owner has been there for 8 months only but the pub is clean, repainted and the welcome was great. A cosy log fire in the bar, excellent Moorland beer and the food freshly cooked to order. Service was friendly and efficient. Now that I have discovered this little gem, will certainly go back again.

Popped in with a friend for a pint this evening. Two beers on, asked for one barman tried then said it was off would we like the other, pulled through the pump and said there was a problem with the gas. We were the first customers in early evening and I cannot understand how this problem was not noticed at lunchtime. To my mind this counts as poor service as I would think that the pumps should be checked before every service and if there is a problem at least turn the badges around. Barman did not seem particularly interested in having customers in.

Recently tried the Crown - the bar is small and welcoming but that is all that is needed.

In the restaurant side the food is excellent and changes daily - some very interesting dishes on the menu using cuts of meat that have been long forgotten.

The new owners have started off on the right foot and I hope they do make a success of it.

I visited this pub for lunch today - it all looked promising from the outside, but inside? Completely deserted on a sunny bank holiday monday. Still, we stayed for lunch in the perfectly pleasant beer garden - ploughmans (fine except the obviously old piece of cheese) and a jacket potato (not cooked properly). Not much choice of drinks, but the interior showed signs of recent decoration. It certainly has potential to be a lovely country pub, but isn't living up to them at the moment. Ok if all you want is a quick drink.

The pub has had a few problems in the last two year but the new landlady is trying very hard and the food is good quality and good value,. If the sun is shining the beer garden is very nice and gradually the decor is becoming more welcoming inside.

Well worth a visit if only to experience some of the local "Village people"
