Closed, then burned out by fire; now covered in scaffolding. SilkTork - 13 Apr 2011 20:13
And even worse. Gutted by fire over the weekend. Surprise surprise! Paul_Rochdale - 28 Mar 2011 20:22

Rather dingy looking from the outside and very disappointing inside. OK beer but little said of the food phonak - 17 Jan 2010 13:51
Ancient weather-boarded pub on the Great Dover Road leading into Rochester, mentioned by Dickens in "The Uncommercial Traveller". Scruffy and off-putting from the outside, the inside isn't that bad. Sadly though, most of the character has been destroyed by unsympathetic wall removal and tasteless decoration, such as wood-chip paper on the ceiling and crazy paving on the floor. There is a chair by the fire which is labelled as Dicken's favourite spot - though I doubt if he would appreciate the pool table and games machine so close to his elbow. To be fair the place is friendly enough to the regular customers, and the occasional music isn't too loud. SilkTork - 21 Sep 2005 18:29
