The pub has had a change in management and the difference is certainly noticeable. Previous reviews have mentioned unfriendly staff. This was certainly not the case whenever we have visited. They are all most friendly and welcoming.

The food is not the cheap and bland fayre you get in a lot of pubs, but is still not expensive. Despite costing that little bit more, it is excellent value and well worth paying for. The chef has two menus - a bar menu which serves high quality staples such as home-made pies with mash and fish & chips; and a restaurant serving a range of dishes such as noisette of lamb and deviled pork tenderloin, served with freshly cooked vegetables (no frozen tasteless veg like in many pubs), and not just standards like steak. On the nights we have visited, the restaurant has been packed with contented diners.

In the bar the beer is well looked after, very tasty and nicely chilled. The pub is several hundred years old with Tudor beams throughout and log fires roaring. There is a big garden through the restaurant next to a duckpond.

They also do B&B. Although we have never stayed, I imagine you are well looked after, although I did hear that one of the rooms was supposed to have a ghost!
