What a revelation. Visited in early July for lunchtime refreshment on Coast Path Walk. Looks imposing from beach level and also has an air of expensive exclusivity. Not so. Don't hesitate as it's well worth making the short climb. We found friendly staff, attentive landlady and best of all a feelgood factor of great keenly priced pulled ales and good value well presented food.......and a view!!! From previous reviews it appears this pub has changed somewhat from 5 years ago. Looks as if it has changed owners. Now part of St Austell Brewery Estate, and like them or loathe them, to me they always seem to get it right. Recommended.

Visited this pub again twice last week whilst on holiday nearby and could not fault it. First night we went in but I was driving so asked them if they would mind filling my 4-pint take-out carrier (which I had got from another pub) - no problems at all and the resulting 4 pints of St Austell Tinners were superb. Also there was no quibble over my request that they remove the sparkler from the handpump before pouring - if this doesn't happen then you get 4 pints of foam, but some pubs seem to have a problem with removing sparklers...

On the second occasion we had a meal and a few drinks, both were of a very good standard and the food was served quickly and with good portions. Again the ale was faultless - and all three working handpumps were tried! Even the pub quiz was well managed and very enjoyable.

Those people saying that this pub is expensive have obviously never been to many pubs in London and the South East...

I've been visiting this pub for years ever since holidays in Cornwall as a child.; nothing changes, however its certainly busier than it used to be then but you can say that about the whole of North Cornwall. Location fantastic, beer ok, (the St Austell range, Tribute, Proper Job, HSD on when I visited), service poor..

Incidently, it was in this pub that I first came across space invaders as a 14 year old circa 1981.

I tend to agree about the food,It was good but overpriced. Nice welcome and toilets were clean.

Beer was ok but ale served in a lager glass???

7/10

Food not cheap but not too bad, ale lovely as in all pubs we went to in Cornwall, setting superb, very atmospheric at night. Unusually they had a large fish tank there with the oddest looking fish bombing round it. Service fine although manageress seemed a bit stressed. Would definitely go back.
