Kronenbourg was a good pint

Saturday night in most town centre's usually means gnags of rowdy young people out getting smashed. This is were the rowdy old people go.
The front was almost totally fenced off as they digging up the street outisde - pity they didn't completely fence it off. Went for a pint of Kronenbourg as it seemed about the best bet.

For a pub in such a prominent position in the town it's a massive let down. Nothing against Maidstone as we have a similar example in Dover!
We wandered in and the place just felt forbidding. There were no real ales available and we did an about turn and left.
To be honest if there had have been a decent ale on we would have done the same thing.
A dive.

The arse hole of Maidstone. The majority of people that occupy this joint are paedophiles, perverts or freaks of some other kind. There are a few very friendly locals. It is jsut terrible.

Used to be a right shocker, but the inside seems to have been smartened up somewhat since my last visit. Also, unlike my previous rare excursions into the place, it had a real ale on (Master Brew) which - whilst not exactly in top condition - was perfectly drinkable. The barmaid seemed friendly enough, and she seemed confident enough of her customers to leave the bar untended for a couple of minutes during a quiet spell to nip outside for a smoke. Despite its prime location, I still couldn't exactly recommend it to anybody, I will acknowledge the modest improvement (albeit from a very low starting point).
