Quite simply an appalling pub.

As an older member of the town who has been using the pub for many years I would like to put a few things straight about the place. Good Pub, Good Beer, Good Food, Polite Staff and best of all I don't feel out of place. The pub is used by vastly differing age groups ranging from 18 to 80 and beyond and not once have I ever felt threatened. The management recently employed the use of Doormen as I believe there was what could be described as a minor scuffle. Well that was wrong wasn't it. The pub haters brigade (normally the ones who buy a house next to a pub) felt it brought the image of the town into disrepute. So they're damned if they do and they're damned if they dont. I know some locals who have complained about the noise outside of the pub in the evenings. It wasn't the pub who made them smoke outside, was it? Yes they make mistakes, they are human and they cannot please all the people all the time but in general the current owners and management are in my view doing a bloody good job. It is a place I would recommend and will continue using the pub as I am at the moment.

Went into Aylesford for a day out, the town was heaving with tourist, shoppers and rail anoraks’. At 1200 decided to go for lunch and have and try one of their range of local ales, and had Itchen Valley, We put an order for a meal - see details from Somerset Man. My comment that the beer I had was slightly vinegary, a tip for manager, who was not in at that time, make sure the bar staff, in the morning pull several pints through from the cellar, so the first customer, possibly me does not get the previous night beer, it reflex’s on the outlet, and also the brewer which is not his fault. I left my beer behind and went

Not to be recommended. Staff seemed not to have a clue how to run a pub lunch service. Called in to what looked an interesting pub on a bustling summer Saturday for a good pub lunch. Menus on tables. Ordered beers then to be told after sipping beers that Chef decided not to cook any hot meals that day. Bar sandwiches only! No explanation. No manager on hand and staff whilst polite hadn't a clue. This forced our hand as we had already ordered drinks and would have meant drinking up & going on to another pub for a hot meal and thus buying further beers to accompany any meal (pushing me over over drink drive limit)

Making best of an unscheduled change in our lunch plans we then orderd 3 baguette rolls from bar instead. Barman asked if we had a pen because he hadn't got one!. He wrote the order down so we sat down to wait for meal and when it came it was the wrong order. Asked to speak to someone as things were going from bad to worse. Offered excuses and not apologies. No-one in the pub seemed to know how to deal with things when they went wrong and the manager hadn't turned up!! Asked for a refund and left.
