Relaxing. Good real ale. 4 in total. At time of visit; wye valley golden and bitty Bach, slaughter house saddleback bitter and otter amber (my choice). Busy yet quite. Has a superb menu and wine list as well as so bar food. Fish finger sandwich lovely.

Visited in Oct 09 on a Friday evening for a meal. The real ale was good and the staff friendly. Despite not booking managed to get a table for a meal and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Only downside (fairly major) was that the table was situated very near to the men's toilets which seemed to have been over-stocked with soap tablets - the result was an overpowering smell which detracted from the enjoyment.
Definitely recommended but only if you insist on not having a table in the small back room near the toilets.

Visited this pub toward the end of June. Couple of real ales. Was driving though so could only have half, which was delicious and well-kept. The pub was lovely and the food delicious. Highly recommended!

No sign of the fire when we visisted, although we didn't venture upstairs. I didn't even notice that there was an upstairs, so maybe it's been closed off.
A popular pub with three beers on tap, plus Scrumpy Jack & Strongbow cider. Quite extensive, although it's quite narrow in places which means there aren't loads of tables. We were lucky to get somewhere to sit.
Food is pretty good, and reasonably priced. Both our main courses were around £8 and we were very pleased with them.

visited this place twice over the weekend of 6th and 7th September, lovely pint of Landlord but ale not very varied, could've done with a higher gravity ale on! had the food in the restaurant up stairs which was good, pub stays open reasonably late too, not a bad place at all and worth a visit if you are staying near the castle, it is opposite some superb thatch cottages!
