I heard tonight that the bailiffs moved in today. Blimey! Such is the power of B.I.T.E. sussexred - 19 Feb 2008 23:18
Heathfield is a temperance town and this is the only pub remotely near to the centre so it attracts a complete cross section of the local residents. Small uninteresting two-bar street-corner local with a dining area. There are plenty of decent village pubs in the local area without bothering about coming here. Definitely not worth going out of your way for. sussexred - 19 Feb 2008 16:12
A village boozer with excellent restaurant, in fact, the 'only pub in the village'!!! Serves a great pint of Harveys Sussex Bitter & usually two other guest ales. Very reasonably priced Bar snacks also available. For anyone walking or cycling, get to the end of the Cuckoo Trail and turn left up the hill, you will see the pub on the crossroads. The POW is dog friendly, (Winston & Jezabel will scare you or lick you to death!) The POW is a family friendly pub, children are welcome as long as their parents control them...there are signs around the pub explaining pub rules regarding this..a welcome relief in this day & age, when you want a quiet beer...why not have one? The landlady has her standards & it's best not to mess with her! Also she's not adverse to getting out in the kitchen & rustling up a sandwich for a weary traveller when the need arises and the kitchen is closed. I found this place by accident, I was training for the London to Brighton Bike Ride, came off the Cuckoo Trail & turned the wrong way. Thankfully , someone pointed me in the right direction ..give it a go!!! Tim Ash - 21 Aug 2005 02:05
