Unpreposessing pub convenient for railway station and town centre. Doesn't look much from the outside and interior is painted a rather odd green colour but the beer is what you are there for! Normally three or four real ales on offer with an ever changing list of what's coming up. The landlord prides himself on the quality of his beer and normally only orders one barrel of each so once it's gone, it's gone! Has been South Beds CAMRA pub of the year a number of times and deservedly so. The licencees work hard to keep their beer well and a decent class of customer. Louts / loudmouths are generally made unwelcome. This is one of the few pubs in the area where although there is a core of locals who use the place regularly, I have never felt that there is any sort of cliquey atmosphere, even when I have been in there alone I have always felt welcome and have ended up having a chat with someone. Beer garden is good for the summer and this is one of the few town centre pubs that can offer this facility. Also has a late licence on certain days so you can enjoy your real ale long into the night! manx_888 - 11 Apr 2011 12:29
Old style town local full of moaning old men (should be at home then shouldn't I). Nothing really remarkable but had four unusual ales on for the area. had a pint of Butcombe Bitter which was a nice enough ale. Snarling_Mallard - 7 Nov 2010 12:16
Wonderful pub, Superb beer, excellent pub grub, well worth the short walk from the station. tophatter64 - 18 Sep 2010 16:00
An all round gem. Ossian and Brakspear ales in superb condition and a couple of others available too. Local clientele but very welcoming atmosphere in a well kept urban local. The food is excellent, basic pub grub, good breakfasts and excellent quality burgers served with style and even some salad! The beer garden is a fine little oasis (non-turfed so may not be ideal for small children), with smoking shelters and plenty of seating. Luton may not be the most attractive town and from the outside the Rose looks average - inside though is a great thriving local which is bucking the national trend. kentrunner - 19 Apr 2010 00:05
