Staying at the Ramada Encore on the A40, popped down for a quick pint. Very cheery barman and just what we needed - a decent Guinness for £3 and a comfortable sit down for a bit. We were asked if we'd be coming back in for St. Patrick's Day celebrations, and probably would have done had we not been off to Norway the next morning; it felt as though it might be a pretty decent place to be that night! Will be back when we're next in the area..

A gem of a find, very old school in style but that's what I liked about it, a pub full of charm and not hijacked by the big chains.
Landlady was friendly and I felt very comfortable in this pub as I was a stranger in town for the day.
I remember the people being in the pub on the day I was there were either locals or Irish (the landlady is Irish too), so it's almost like a mini Irish pub.

Recommended, quaint and a great wee pub.

What a dump. I can undertsand why the locals all sit at the bar - the other seating is filthy. On the plus side, the landlord is very friendly and welcoming, but it's a shame there are no decent beers available - just an okay Guinness and lots of carbonated cat's urine passing itself off as branded lager. They've started a quiz night to try to attract more people in but they'd be better off getting the basics right first.

This is a locals pub with friendly team of staff, they are trying to get the place filled using quiz nights and music at week-ends. At the moment they are selling beers for £2 a pop so give it a go.

Nipped in here just Friday gone 27.03.09 as found it on this site. Just nipped down on me jacks as I'm into pool and had a good time. Even beat a couple of the locals! Lol! There is also another bar, just for chilling out which seemed very comfortable. I went there for the pool and competitive it is! Nice Irish traditional boozer and you are made to feel welcome. My Dad managed Pubs like this and always a buzz to be around a place like 'the gaff'. Staff are a bit thin on the ground, The Ladlord says he is working on getting more people in but given the 'economic downturn' I can't blame him. You just order anyway, and they do a good Guiness and he gives you a friendly call when your beers are ready. A nice place :)
