| I wasn't even sure if this place was open when I went in a couple of weeks ago as the bar was deserted. The pub has a bit of a nightclub feel to it - black chairs with red velveteen upholstery and a black painted bar. There are no real ales (which is not uncommon in this neck of the woods) and wasn't a place I felt particularly at home in. There is a hostel upstairs which has the entrance in the bar and this ensured a trickle of travellers through the pub dragging their luggage. Thai food is on offer (even take away and delivery) but didn't try this. Better places within a reasonable walk (although they most require crossing the A40) murgatroyd - 16 Dec 2009 05:52 |
| This is an ok pub. Just the one Irish bloke behind the bar - think he owns it to? This is probably the reason for the irregular hours comment in the last post. Plenty of 'internationals' walking in and out of the hostel upstairs - seems like a hostel with a bar instead of the other way round. It needs more beer as very limited choice. | I work just around the corner from this pub. I noticed that they have a new Thai chef in residence from today. The food was fantastic, I had the pad thai, really full of flavour. I will be making this my regular watering hole from now on. gerryco - 22 Jun 2009 21:53 |
| On the plus side, this wasn't a threatening place, unlike some of the boozers around here. But that's about the only positive, and it may be because I was the only person in the place at the time. A textbook example of a lazily-run pub - it keeps funny hours and the interior, incredibly dark and painted black, is off-putting. Eccentric service too. Given its unpromising backstreet location and the number of other pubs round here, one fears this must do bettter. No real ale. grecian - 14 Apr 2009 10:17 |
