user reviews of the Royal Oak, Copmanthorpe

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We have lunched at the Royal Oak twice and have been so impressed with the food and service that we intend to go there whenever we are in the Copmanthorpe area.Fortunately the pub is still a village local rather than a trendy expensive gastro pub where tables are set for meals and you feel you cannot just pop in for a drink. That being said the food is definitely not just pub grub. Whether it is a light bite you are after or a substantial meal you can be sure it will be beautifully cooked and presented.Cannot recommend it highly enough. Do try it.

We are due to move into the village in a few weeks time, and we were delighted to find that our new local is an absolute gem!

We had an excellent meal. The Oak's 'signature dish', chicken pie in a creamy tarragon sauce, went down very well with several members of our party, as did some very tender and tasty lamb and an enormous matured steak. All meals were served with very fresh vegetables and a choice of chips, mashed potato, roast potato or rice. The prices were very reasonable indeed, we felt.

A couple opposite ordered snacks, and were served some delicious-looking and generously filled sandwiches with salad.

The service couldn't have been better. The couple running the pub are keen to make a good impression, and to ensure customers are well looked after. They take a real pride in their work. The surroundings were clean and pleasant, retaining a 'country pub' atmosphere - without the smell of smoke and stale beer! A real asset to the village, I think.

Has recently been refurbished and I think it's now owned by the same people who own the Ship in Acaster Malbis. Whether this is a good thing remains to be seen.

In the heart of the historic village of Copmanthorpe, this was originally the village coaching inn. It has maintained an "olde worlde" atmosphere, and is very handy for a quick refresher after Church, being right next door.
