An exellent pub all round. The beers were well priced and well kept. The whapweasel was particularly good. A nice atmoshpere, decent food and very helpful barstaff made this pub a pleasure to be in. dazzadurham - 5 Jun 2011 11:59
Back again this spring - couldn't sample the Old Humbug as none brewed at the time, but the Whapweasel was stunning yet again. Local cheeses just as tasty. This pub's current rating is the highest I've seen on this site - and deservedly... ashhowe - 14 Apr 2010 22:02
Lovely setting in wooded river valley a few miles outside Hexham. With its picturesque garden, it probably gets pretty close to pub perfection on a warm summer's evening (alas it was raining when we visted). Snug, rustic interior, great cooking aromas, suitably devoid of pub chain ersatz. Friendly landlady let me sample all five Hexhamshire brews before deciding which to plump for (if you're reading this, yes I'd definitely agree that eople like me are a pain in the rear!). Great range of beers, differing in strength from about 4% to 5.something, including one with unique smoked flavour - acquired taste, but faultless for its novelty value. norbitonpaul - 17 Jul 2009 22:11
To reviewer below - the food is excellent but getting a seat in summer can be a problem.. wynlactona - 22 Feb 2009 20:13
Proper pub perfection, brilliant during a stroll due to its secluded location. It can be hard to find but it is definitely worth doing so. Great local real ales and food is apparently brilliant, although i didn't try it. One of the best pubs in the North East Carlurmston - 26 Jan 2009 12:18
