I've worked in the area on and off for many years and like most pubs a change of landlord makes all the difference. This has been in and out of favour with me and my colleagues over time. Not been in here for several years but Christmas (2009) and the New Year, this was one of a few pubs open so gave it a try on the way to Warren Street. Beer is well kept and some of the staff (all female) are friendly and up for a bit of banter. Summer it is too popular and can be stuffy. However the rest of time a traditional cosy pub ideal for a pint and a chat with some friends. GEPC - 12 Mar 2010 09:38
Tucked away on a side street off Tottenham Court Road the Grafton is one of those smallish comfortable London back street pubs tht I enjoy. The sign outside advertised a roof terrace but given the temperature I felt no need to verify this). It's a Greene King pub offering IPA, Abbott, Old Speckled Hen, Royal London and Orsell. The pub has a nice relaxing atmosphere and was a bit quieter than some of the pubs on Tottenham Court Rd itself. I'd definitely return here if in the area and maybe even check out the roof terrace. murgatroyd - 19 Dec 2009 09:06
You'd have though that, being a Greene King pub, they'd serve you a decent pint of Green King beer. Wrong ! Which was a shame, as otherwise it seemed ok. nmckenn - 7 Jul 2009 20:51
During my recent visit there was some good banter going on in here between the Aussie Barmaid and some of the locals. I thought that it made a change from the usual Central London attitude of ‘give me your money and feck off’. It’s a shame that this is a Greene King pub as only Old Speckled Hen, IPA and Abbot were available, although there was limited selection of standard and premium lagers. I didn’t venture up onto the roof terrace, but I will make a point of it when next in the area. Strongers - 17 Jun 2009 08:03
The little roof garden is the main feature of interest here - although at one time it used to be the place to escape from the smoke (but is now the opposite). 'Dull as ditchwater' Greene King ales, although the Ale Fresco is probably the best of a bad job. rpadam - 3 Jun 2008 23:47
