I see there are some very non-complementary reviews below. I'm house hunting in the area and have visited this pub twice over the last few days, on a Saturday afternoon and a Monday lunchtime. All I can say is that it is very friendly and welcoming. It has apparently been under new ownership since Feb 2011 and my partner and I stuck up conversations with the landlady, her son and several others in the pub. There seemed to be a good selection of ales on both tap and draught. There's no food, other than bar snacks. But apart from that, I couldn't fault it. EssexJames - 22 Jun 2011 15:48

The pub is under new ownership now and is being re-decorated. cdbteh - 26 Jan 2011 20:03
This gaff doesn't even rate as being a pub. It is so unremittingly unfriendly! Makes that pub in American Werewolf look like the Rovers Return! The landlord looks like a Star Wars reject. His wife is so rude that you'd think she was joking. As far as I can tell this pub is solely supported by a remedial local family who run a cleaning company. The beer was beyond watered down and the crisps were beyon sell-by. I would only recommend this place for extreme curiosity value. however, hurry - it won't be open long!!! nicksteele - 3 Oct 2010 22:28
Well what can I add? the comments from visitors ispeakthetruth2009 and mrs maple are totally congruent!. If rudeness was michelin star rated they would have more stars then Hollywood. Regarding ale and food it is pathetic, the menu and offering is full of misrepresentation and empty of ingredients, well worth the visit from messr GR to give them the big F word in their kitchen. Might be worth the visit if you are interested in public house history as this one may not be pulling pints for to long. lordoakley - 1 Apr 2010 18:02
